On the Go Saturday

On Saturday morning I left out the door and was on the go for the rest of the day. I went and got my oil changed, got some coffee while waiting for REI to open, was sticker shocked at REI, drove out to my parents, Mom and I did some banking, then to the farmer's market, camera cleaning with Dad, lunch with Mom and Dad at BWW, garden harvesting (tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, & jalapenos), short walk with BoBear over in Murphy (for the picture), drive, see Erik at work, drop of some veggies, meet Amy, go see Time Traveler's Wife (liked it), went home, hung out for a bit, went to pizza with Amy and Erik, crashed hard in bed and slept for 10.5 hours.

Willow River State Park (Wisconsin)

Erik and I ventured over to Wisconsin this afternoon to Willow River State Park. We greatly enjoyed this park and would recommend going there. You just need to be aware of the incline down to the falls and thus back up to your car. On the way back up to our car I stepped on a bee. I was wearing sandals and the little bugger just got right in when I lifted my heal. Yikes it hurt. Erik offered to carry me up the hill and a family walking down the hill got a big kick out of that, but once they heard about the bee it made a little more sense to them. So here are some pictures from our afternoon in the park (the first being my photo of the day).

Photo of the Day (plus One)

Tonight we had dinner at our friend's, Matt & Chrissy, and had a lovely dinner in the backyard at their new house. They have beautiful gardens throughout the yard. Here are two shots from their yard.

Thank Goodness!

With all those spots on my pictures tonight, I was in a little bit of a tizzy and concerned that I'd have to send it in to get clean (who knows how many millions that is). Anyhoo... I used my little blower bulb to blow at the sensor and what do you know, when I took a picture of the wall...
It looks pretty clear of spots, besides the natural variation in the wall that is called 'apartment living'. I'm very thankful!

P.S. This is a picture of a picture in our dining room. I took this picture up north last fall and we were driving down the road and saw a double rainbow. I opened the sliding window in the back of Erik's truck and snapped a picture of the rainbow. It was pretty cool.

Evening Sun, August 25, 2009

I enjoyed taking pictures tonight. I went to a park with a lake nearby and tripod in hand went hiking around. I learned I need to remember to turn on the noise reduction, when taking longer exposures - I forgot tonight. I also need to clean something, because some of my other pictures where spotty - how disappointing. But the good news is, I had a hard time choosing which picture to post for today. I have two that I like a bunch.

A Good Read, August 24th, 2009

I am part of a book club and we read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I did not finish the book in time, but I'm almost done and it is a great book. It is a series of letters and it takes place after World War II. I'd highly recommend it!

Horsin' Around

Happily Munching Horses, August 23, 2009

Mom and I went on a ride today with Connie, Mom's neighbor, in the park. Mom rode Chance (big guy in the background) and I rode LauraBell (gray girl in front). Best part - Mom's best ride this year on Chance. I'm happy for the two of them. It was a beautiful late summer day with the grass blowing in the breeze and the sun warming us up.

This morning in fact it must have been chilly for all of the insects. Last night we had this big bumble hanging out by the snapdragons and this morning, the poor little guy was hanging on for life but not moving much. I thought he was dead at first, but nope, just chilled to moving slow.

Saturday

I had a really nice Saturday yesterday. One that makes you want to continually have days like that. I went for a run after not running for a while. I wasn't where I left off, but hey, I'm okay with that. I went to the farmer's market and picked up some basil, sweet corn and brats. I blanched and froze the corn along with broccoli and jalapenos from the garden. This morning I made pesto and froze that too. I read for a bit and caught up on some sleep. Then I went to watch Katie in the Ragnar Relay. That was fun to see her. I saw her at about mile 2 of 4.5 in her last run (she had two runs before this 4.5 and 5.5 miles) and she was not really happy when I saw her. She had just come up a steep hill that was definitely mostly vertical. I went to the end of her leg and she was a much happier camper then with a smile on her face. So that is where yesterday's picture came from - she had just come up that big hill. I guess she is smiling, but she was telling me she was never going to do it again - how things changed when she was done. :) Erik worked Saturday, but when he got home we had brats and corn on the grill and then had some friends over to hang out.

Messy Bed, August 16, 2009

I have done a fair amount of traveling this summer, including last night and this week. Tonight, I'm going to be in our bed, our messy bed, but just the way we like it. It is a very comfortable bed and one of our first major purchases. We don't have much for fancy furniture, but we are comfortable and enjoy our space. I also just recently hung the pictures above the bed. I love them. They are from our trip to Duluth this summer.

Grandma Judy, August 15, 2009

My Dad and I went down to Southeastern Wisconsin for my aunt's housewarming party. We had a nice time and saw much of my Dad's side of the family.

Ready to Go, August 14, 2009

My Dad and I went to National Camera's Tent sale on Friday. We both walked away with new backpack camera bags and I got a new tripod. I'm super excited to hike with these. The tripod fits nicely on the backpack for easy carrying. We had a fun day hanging out together.

Day 4

A Place to Just Be (Cricket), August 12, 2009

Last night I went over to my parents and hung out. I do this quite a bit. I enjoy hanging out with them and Katie too. I enjoy the peacefulness that they have on their twenty acres. I enjoy the animals. I enjoy seeing the girls that come over for pitching practice and seeing the horses happily munching on grass. I enjoy checking on the garden. It is a very nice place to be.

Katie came over too and we took pictures and talked about taking pictures and attempted to take pictures of the animals, but they didn't always want their pictures taken. I enjoyed watching some pitching, but the barn was quite hot last night, even with a fan going. We fixed a couple of fence boards that the 'boys' had knocked down and probably could have walked right out if they so desired. Dad, Katie and I sat outside on the deck and watched the Perseids Meteor Shower. That was pretty cool. We didn't see the peak shower, but we saw a handful of streaks across the sky.

Day 3 Photo

Nicollet Mall, August 11, 2009

Today I spoke at a conference in Minneapolis at the Hilton. At lunch I walked down Nicollet Ave. and took a few photos. These are the things I learned:
1. I don't really like taking pictures of buildings.
2. I feel weird about taking pictures with a whole bunch of people around that are just going about their days. I probably just need to get over it.
3. This girl is not a huge fan of being downtown, I'd much rather be in a field or out in the woods or in a stream. (I already knew this, and probably most people do know this about me too).

I also hung out with Katie today, we went in search of a new planter for the spider plant affectionately called Duggar. We found one and went to a cute little neighborhood garden store.

I ran out to my parents and hung out with my Mom for a bit. We spent some time in the garden and eating ice cream on the deck.

Garden update: it is over flowing with cucumbers and cabbage right now. The melons are multiplying each time I'm out there, but none are ripe yet. There are some little squash now. We've still been harvesting broccoli too. The bell peppers and tomatoes look as though they could use some hot days to ripen, maybe we'll get those later this week.

Dodge Nature Center, August 10, 2009

Today, I am super anxious about my big presentation for work tomorrow. I had a good day, but somehow those butterflies keep fluttering about.

I ran errands tonight, but stopped for a bit at Dodge Nature Center. The sun had dipped behind a rain cloud and made it interesting trying to balance the bright sky with the dark foreground. The mosquitoes were keeping me company tonight too.

Photo A Day - August 9, 2009

Katie and I went to the Uptown Art Fair today. I had an absolutely wonderful time hanging out with Katie! We both had been thinking about our own art abilities and comparing them to those at the Art Fair. We had some great conversations about whether or not we think we could make something that compared to the quality of the artists work that we were looking at - most of the time it was a nope - not there yet.

We both have nice cameras and have decided to take more pictures. So we decided on a photo a day. We may not always be able to post or have a picture of something very cool... might be a pile of mail, but we will get out our cameras and take some pictures. Also, maybe I'll do better at blogging more frequently.

Here is my first photo a day...

Bicycle wheels, August 9, 2009

Erik and I took a ride down the Gateway Trail on the Northeast side of the cities. It was nice and really not that far from us. Actually I was thinking maybe I'd go there after work sometime, may be a nice ride or run.
